Ethics and Mental Health

In 2013, the cost for treating mental illness in the US topped the list for all medical conditions. This issue of the AMA Journal of Ethics explores critical social, cultural, and ethical dimensions of mental illness. Contributors consider what caregivers’ responses to patients’ mental health needs and patients’ perceptions of their own mental illness express about the values of our health care system and society.
