One argument advanced against having DNR orders in schools for children with life-limiting illnesses is that “doing nothing” traumatizes onlookers because it feels like abandonment of a patient.
Forcing parents to participate in treatment is unlikely to succeed. Seeking to optimize the therapeutic alliance between family and pediatrician is more likely to achieve the desired outcome—the child’s short- and long-term well-being.
Psychodynamic therapy is generally suited to treating issues arising in cancer treatment because it enables rapid development of the therapeutic alliance.
