When taking a sexual history, which can give valuable information about the patient’s medical condition, well-being, and risk profile, always ensure privacy, avoid leading questions, tailor questions to the patient’s sexual orientation, ascertain the patient’s level of risky behavior, and discuss safe sex practices—all in a sensitive and nonjudgmental manner.
